TZR250R 3XVB SP – Still Restricted Even with Zeel CDI (Need Help!)

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to get my TZR250R 3XVB SP to run the way she should, but I'm hitting a wall — literally.

Even after fitting a Zeeltronic CDI, the bike still behaves like it's "restricted". She revs cleanly up to about 9,500-10,000 rpm, then just hits a brick wall as if a limiter kicks in. Top speed is around +-160 km/h in 6th, and that's it — no more revs, no more pull.

I honestly thought the Zeel would sort "something" out, but something's still not right in my opinion.

Current setup:

Stock 3XVB carbs

SP airbox

Zeeltronic CDI (wired correctly, runs perfectly otherwise)

Dogfight chambers & silencers

What I've observed:

Same behavior with both OEM CDI and Zeel, so it's not just mapping.

Pulls beautifully to 10k, then completely stops revving — feels like an ignition or speed-based cut, not fueling.

The Zeel map might still mirror the stock limiter, or maybe something in the SP airbox or solenoids isn't working correctly at high rpm, Im not sure.

Has anyone else with a 3XVB SP experienced the same 10 k limit?

Anything obvious I'm missing in the wiring, airbox, or intake setup?

And if I'm completely off base here — if the SP is actually meant to behave like this — please tell me! I just want her to run like she's supposed to, not necessarily chase big power.

I've also sent an email to Zeeltronic to check if there's anything I might have overlooked on the CDI side.

Any advice, experience, or insight would really help. She's close... but not quite where she should be yet.

Cheers,

I am not to sure tbh, I dropped Zeel a mail today regarding maps and he sent me one to start off as a base - not sure if there's someone on here with a decent base map they could share.

My spr with the sugo cdi for it and jackal exhausts. Pulls all the way to red line 11.5k rpm

I think the zeel is a base setup centered around the R models.

I have somewhere a line graph that compared the different cdi's and the rpms. At which the power valve is fully open and closed.

The thing I noticed most was the ypvs drum style power valve. Had a longer duration between open n closed.

Where the 3xvb and spr with the guillotine style power valve. Had a much shorter duration between open n closed.

Maybe this is contributing to the top end loss.

My graph shows with 3xv9a cdi (the sugo cdi for 3xvb). That at around 9300 9500 rpm it starts to open. Then fully open by 10k rpm.

Where the 3xv-80 sugo cdi for the 92 sp ypvs drum. The power valve starts to open at 7500 rpm and gradually opens fully by about 10.5k rpms.

The guillotine setup opens n closes in a much shorter duration. More of like a light switch.

The zeel could be setup closer to the R.

My graph shows on the stock restricted R cdi.

Power valve starts to open  at 3900 rpm gradually opens fully till 8500 rpm fully open.

Check and see how it's set to open n close the power valve. I believe the guillotine setup prefers the more closed then open in the shorter duration.

Thank you for the info, appreciated. As you said, the base map might be more tailored for R-spec. Will have a look at that.

Have you read through the Zeel thread? Might be some useful info there:

I also attached an excel file with all the various ignition curves. Like SeaR1ck mentioned the PV curves for the guillotine valves are quite different than the barrel type.

Did you end up figuring out your problem? I'm having a slightly similar issue with my 3XV1 fitted with a zero..
