Good morning. Seeing as there's still brand new stock of the 3XV SP crankshaft, do you think it's a good idea to get one to keep as a spare and potentially install it on a 3XV R in the future?
What state of preservation will they be in after so much time in storage?
Is it common for this part of the standard 3xv to break down?
Thanks
It's quite an expensive piece.

Yeah they are really pricey now, the price has literally doubled since a few years ago.

Preservation wise it's only the center seal that's a consideration. A new center seal even stored for many years will still be better than any secondhand crank..

I bought one recently to put in my tuned R Engine. Definetly worth it. I was told the stock cranks are not too rigid, especially if you want to increase the power output. Also the SP crank has the full weights (in german you call it a "Vollwangenkurbelwelle" idk the english term and couldn't find a translation), so you can expect a way sturdier crank. As @ybk said, only the center seal could deteriorate and need replacement, if stored too long.

For storage: mine came in a very thick plastic bag with an oily paper inside, all packed in a cardboard box filled with foam. The box etc. looked fairly new as well, i think they maybe still producing them (?) idk for sure. So if you get a new one just keep it in its OEM box, foil etc.

But overall there is nothing speaking against it. If you have the money do it. They only will get more expensive over time!
Life is too short to wait 4 strokes for ignition - save the 2 strokes
